- What is Enrollment?
The school currently has an average of 100 students per year in preschool through sixth grade.
- How much “religion” is taught? Do all students take Bible?
We want the actions of our students to reveal the character of Christ at all times. For this reason, Bible is integrated into all subject areas in each grade level. In addition, Bible curriculum is taught as a separate subject daily.
- What are the future plans for the school?
Currently we serve students K2-6th grade. The Academy (Grades K5 - 6th grade) will close at the end of this school year. However, our Preschool, Afterschool, and Summer Programs will remain fully in tact. See enrollment information located elsewhere on this website.
- What is the student/teacher ratio?
K2-K4 has a teacher and an assistant in each class. Maximum enrollment for K2 is 12 students, K3 is 18 students, and K4 is 18 students. Our enrollment ratios meet and exceed the South Carolina Department of Social Services requirements.
- Are you affiliated with a church?
Horizons Christian Academy is a ministry of Chester Second Baptist Church. Church doctrine, however, is not the focus of our instruction. HCA students represent over 20 different churches and various denominations.
- What credentials will your teachers have?
We maintain one of the highest standards for teaching credentials. Academy teachers will have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree. Many members of the faculty hold a Masters+ degree. Academy teachers are required to maintain certification or be in the process of obtaining certification.
- Do you offer bus/van transportation?
No. Some of our parents will likely car pool. While transportation is provided from Chester County Schools to our Afterschool Program, parents should arrange all other transportation.
- Do you wear uniforms? Do you have a dress code?
No uniforms. We do have a dress code which is generous and allows our students to maintain their own personality. Written dress code information is available in the student handbook.
- Are you accredited?
We are very pleased with our progress in the strategic planning portion of accreditation. Full accreditation requires enrollment of 150 students. As an alternative, we are pursuing the STAR program (Steps Toward Achieving Recognition) through ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International). This alternative program is available for smaller Christian schools.
