Disciplines are habits that promote our ability to succeed. Disciplines bridge the gap between what we know to be of value and how we actually live. We focus on these areas during our Methods class. Methods class is an interactive elective course for middle school students designed to challenge them in the areas of discipline, character, and other leadership skills.

Sleep

Consistent and adequate sleep are critical to good health and other disciplines.

Exercise

We all know exercise is beneficial but the habit must be established early.

Nutrition

Again, we all know the value of nutrition but good habits must be developed early.

Journaling

This discipline is one of the best ways to track critical thinking and serves as an aid to learning. It is our key method for encouraging students to track their progress and struggles as they live out the other disciplines. Journaling also creates accountability.

Manners

This discipline brings a sense of self-confidence when children know how to respond in various social settings. Students will learn how to respond in various social settings such as public forums, concerts, and dinners.

Worship

This Christian discipline helps to bring order and center our lives around a relationship with Christ versus a set of religious rules.

Contemplation

Christian leaders need time to think deeply and critically about issues or they will only mimic the thoughts of others. Contemplation is the birthplace of creativity.

Prayer

As expressed in worship, students need a personal relationship with God that is nurtured daily in time alone with Him to both talk and to learn to listen.

Meditation & Memory

This discipline helps us soak in truth and find personal application. Meditation on scripture also involves and develops memorization.

Study

This includes the constant capacity-building efforts of our minds.
