Dear Parents:

As discussed in our PTF meeting on Thursday, February 23, we deeply regret that the Academy (K5 – 6th grade ONLY) will be closing at the end of this school year. Due to low enrollment, the Board and Administration deemed it no longer financially feasible to continue the academy (K5-6th grade). Given the condition of the economy, parents everywhere are increasingly challenged to meet the financial obligations of private education.

The administration will work with the affected staff to secure employment to the best of our ability. We will work with you, the parents, to identify and locate suitable educational facilities to the best of our ability. Please discuss this with your children tonight as we do not want them to hear about this from other outside sources. The administration and staff will be available tomorrow to talk with students at an 8:00 a.m. chapel.

The decision to close the academy (K5-6th grade) at the end of the year allows us to maintain the same level of educational opportunities and provide quality instruction. The administration will continue to guide and assist teachers. The level of your child’s academics will not diminish during this school year.

Please understand that the other programs here at Horizons will remain fully functional. Preschool (K2 – K4), Afterschool, and Summer programs will remain intact and will not be affected by this decision. The economic forces affecting the academy are not the same for preschool, afterschool, and summer.

These programs are considered essentials to our community whereas the Academy has often been considered a luxury. The preschool, afterschool, and summer programs also maintain a competitive advantage in our local marketplace.

We are grateful for your support over these past 12 years. This was a difficult yet necessary decision. We love you and thank God for each of you. Feel free to call on us if you need us.

-The Horizons Christian Academy Board of Directors and Administration.
